What is Search Engine Optimization SEO?
Search Engine Optimization or "SEO" is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines such as Google, Bing or Yahoo via "natural" or un-paid search results. Otherwise said it is the activity of ensuring a website can be found in search engines for words and phrases relevant to what the site is offering. In many respects it's simply quality control for websites.
How Does Google™ Rank Pages?
Google™ promotes authority pages to the top of its rankings so it's your job to create pages that become authority pages. This involves writing content people find useful because useful content is shared in blogs, twitter feeds etc., and over time Google™ picks up on these authority signals.
Website Content is not the only factor. No one knows (apart from Google itself) what the criteria for ranking websites are but it is widely believed that Google takes into account over 200 different factors. Read more about the SEO ranking factors
Why is SEO important?
Typically, the earlier (or higher) a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

Other things being equal, which company do you think is more successful? Which company will gain more customers from local SEO and which company is likely to grow faster?
